Goals:
  • Develop technological skills using iMovie
  • Understand integration of Garage Band and iMovie
  • Understand the relation between visual and audio stimuli

Requirements:
  • A car commercial of at least 30 seconds
  • Must have music created in Garage Band
    • Can use sound effects in Garage Band or iMovie
  • Must have a title created in iMovie
Procedures:

1.  Watch this movie clip
Answer the following questions
  • How does the music relate to the visual stimuli?
  • What is the mood of the music?  Does it create tension or release? Excitement?
  • How does the music make you feel while watching the movie?
2.  Watch several of the Car Commercial movie clips in the Public => Music Tech => Project 12 => Movie Files

MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTER IS MUTED WHILE WATCHING THE VIDEO
3.  Select a movie file for the basis of your project.
4.  Open iMovie.  Select Create a New Project.
Title your project "lastname Project 12".  Save your movie in your Music Technology folder.
Click "Create".
5.  Drag the movie file from the finder window into the squares on the right side of the iMovie screen.  This imports the file into the program.
6.  At the lower left hand corner of the screen you will see a film button and a clock button.
  • Click the film button.
  • Drag your clip from the squares to the film sequence below.
  • Click the Clock button.
  • Now at the bottom of the screen you will see a timeline of your movie clip.  If you click the play button, you will see the movie in the big window and a cursor move across the timeline.

7.  Create a new Garage Band project as you have for the previous projects.

  • You have to think in relation of seconds to measures.  At 120 beats per minute, each measure lasts for 2 seconds.
8.  Once you have composed your Garage Band tune,
  • Export it to iTunes
  • Select audio from the lower right hand corner of the iTunes screen
  • Find song in the iTunes list
  • Drag the title of the song to the point in the timeline where you would like it
  • Press play to see how the music sounds with your video
9.  Begin experimenting with titles and special effects
  • You can use audio or video effects
  • You can also place sounds over music if you drag the sound to the third line
10.  Begin evaluating and giving feedback for your assigned partner's project.  You will also recieve a grade for the completion of your partner's project, so give them good feedback.
11.  Once you have completed your movie you need to save it to the public folder.
  • From "File" select "Share..."
  • Select "Quicktime"
  • Compress movie for "Web"
  • Save the file to Public => Music Technology => Project 12 => Student Projects
